Welcome to our Music Programs.
Welcome to our official site! My name is Katherine Deakin. I’m a music teacher who can be seen on the West and East Coasts teaching First Steps in Music, Voice, Songwriting, and Piano.
This site is the home of our exciting music education programs, launched in January 2010. In our classes, children explore complex musical concepts through age-appropriate songs, and rhymes. The best part? Hearing your child singing songs that he or she learned!
Our First Steps in Music and Conversational Solfege programs were developed by Dr. John M. Feierabend, Director of The Center of Music and Movement in The Early Years. Our goal is to enhance each child’s natural aptitude for music with rich experiences that nourish his or her musical intelligence, and to develop a lifelong love for music.
Our music classes are a wonderful way to grow, play, and smile with your child. We encourage parents to participate both in class and at home. We hope your family will benefit from our unique programs. Now go ahead, poke around! Thank you for visiting our page.
Cheers,
Katherine Deakin, Director.
I wish I had known about your classes when my grandchild was a toddler….but his little sister will be ready in a year or so. Graham is now 8 and I am looking for a group class that would start him in music (perhaps recorder) in a relaxed and fun way. If you know of any such group, please let me know, Ellisabeth
I would like to know if you have any groups for introduction to music for an eight year old. Something that would be fun and instructive
Dear Elisabeth, How are you? Thank you for your comments, believe it or not, YES, due to a modest amount of interest, I am currently forming a group for children in Graham’s age group! The program is called ‘Conversational Solfege’ and about adding recorders into the curriculum, what a lovely idea!!!
Our ultimate goal is to create fully engaged, independent musicians who can hear, understand, read, write, compose, and improvise. The approach is fun, and organic with an ‘ear before eye’ philosophy to music literacy.
I will send you an email and make a blog post this week with a little more information. Talk to you soon!
